News Brief : Game Of Thrones castings, Show renewals and Who's the best 'Anti-hero' character on TV

.... FX's plan for The Strain
The network's upcoming adaptation of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hagan's trilogy of vampire novels is already pretty highly anticipated around these parts: Lost and Bates Motel showrunner Carlton Cuse is working with del Toro to bring it to the airwaves, and House of Cards' Corey Stoll is starring. But at FX's TCA executive session, network head honcho (and all-around smart guy) John Landgraf announced that they already have episode and season limits (39-65 and 3-5, respectively) in mind for the show. Pre-planning doesn't always work, but knowing end dates early, especially for high-concept series, is a really good idea.

Who's the best "anti-hero" character? is it Dexter Morgan (Dexter), Tony Soprano (The Sopranos), Nucky Thompson (Boardwalk Empire), and SAMCRO (Sons Of Anarchy) or Breaking Bad's Walter White as the be-all, end-all, most ultimate darkest main character-guy ever... times infinity.

.... Fox is planning its own Broadchurch
The critically acclaimed, David Tennant-starring British crime drama Broadchurch on BBC America has become a hit and is already planning a second season, but that hasn't stopped Fox from developing its own adaptation. We know that American networks love lifting crime series ideas from far-away places, but this seems a little soon—and kind of odd, since Broadchurch will probably still be airing new episodes on BBCA when Fox's version debuts.

... Arrow might become the vehicle for a fast-tracked The Flash series
Now that superheroes are big money-makers, and that Arrow was among the very few network hits last season, it makes sense to add another superhero show. So the CW is planning on introducing Dr. Barry Allen—alter-ego: The Flash—and if the origin story goes well, there's a very good possibility that the network will develop a spin-off around the character.

... CBS Renews Under the Dome for Season 2

... Two Major Characters Are Leaving Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation will be saying goodbye to Rashida Jones (Ann) and Rob Lowe (Chris) midway through the upcoming sixth season. No reasons have been announced for their departure.

... ABC Family Renews Switched at Birth for Season 3, Orders More Episodes of Twisted and The Fosters
Switched at Birth is the first mainstream TV series to feature deaf or hearing-impaired series regulars and features scenes shot entirely in American Sign Language. Twisted is a one-hour mystery about a 16-year-old who returns to his high school—and his old life—after five years in juvenile detention for killing his aunt under mysterious circumstances. The Fosters is a multi-ethnic family drama focusing on an unconventional family of foster children and biological children being raised by two mothers.

CASTING NEWS

... Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie) is set to return to Fox's New Girl for two episodes early in Season 3. Wever plays Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) college girlfriend, with whom he rekindled his romance late in the show's second season.

... Peter Weller (ALIAS: RoboCop) will guest-star in Season 6 of FX's biker drama Sons of Anarchy. He'll play a ruthless ex-cop who's now working at the port in Stockton, and who has a run-in with the boys of SAMCRO. Weller previously directed five episodes of SoA.

... Rome actress Indira Varma has been cast in the fourth season of HBO's Game of Thrones as Ellaria Sand, the promiscuous lover of new character Prince Oberyn Martell, played by Pedro Pascal.

... Esai Morales (NYPD BlueCaprica) is joining Criminal Minds as Matt Cruz, the new BAU section chief. He will make his first appearance in the third episode of Season 9, which premieres September 25.
